Overview

A precision agriculture solution tailored for Sri Lankan tea estates, combining IoT sensors, edge AI, and cloud analytics to optimize irrigation and detect crop diseases early.

The Challenge

Sri Lankan tea estates needed to optimize irrigation and monitor crop health across vast, hilly terrain with limited connectivity.

Our Solution

Deployed LoRaWAN-based sensor network with solar-powered nodes. Implemented edge AI for disease detection using camera traps and TensorFlow Lite models.

The Result

Reduced water usage by 30% while increasing yield by 15%. Early disease detection saved an estimated $500K in crop losses annually.

Deep Dive

LoRaWAN Network

We deployed a network of solar-powered sensor nodes across the estate, measuring soil moisture, temperature, humidity, and light levels. LoRaWAN provides reliable connectivity across hilly terrain with minimal infrastructure.

Edge AI for Disease Detection

Camera traps with STM32-based processors run TensorFlow Lite models to detect early signs of tea plant diseases. Alerts are sent immediately to farm managers via the mobile app.

Irrigation Optimization

The system uses sensor data and weather forecasts to create optimal irrigation schedules. Zone-based control allows precise water delivery, significantly reducing waste while maintaining crop health.
